from this point forward (a merging of all of our names--clever, right?), came to visit me in
Gainesville for the first time! It was full of
"first timesies" and part of the fun was checking out our local farmer's market for the first time--which would mark my first time going to one EVER. Yes, I know.. growing up in the suburbs of South Florida doesn't pave much way for exploring the small town vibes that you'd get in Stars Hollow (Gilmore Girls fans, anyone?). Nonetheless, I tried the best cranberry orange muffin known to man, saw more dogs than was healthy for my overzealous self, and definitely got a taste of what it would be like to live in a quaint village where food and flowers are passed around from door to door as neighborly signs of hospitality. Spotlight of the trip: Natalie ordering an empanada and offering her credit card to the vendor only to have him tell her that they don't accept cards, but to give his mom a $5 bill the next time she saw her. There were so many things about this statement that made me want to stay in this neighborhood forever. First of all, this family owned business vibe was so strong and sentimental that I suddenly craved to get away from tunnel vision city life (I still love you, New York). Secondly, he obviously realized that we didn't know who his mom was, so his statement was just a nice way of treating someone to free food-- something you don't see much of at all anymore, whether it be food, gum, or even spare change. The homey atmosphere of Haile Plantation was definitely enough to draw me in a second time-- thank God this farmer market is a weekly occurrence and is right here in my city Gainesville!
